An API key is an essential tool for accessing a server, application or web service. This is a code specific to your account that is used to authenticate your access and provide you with specific information and functionality. An OpenAI API key is a passcode used to access the GPT-3 engine, a powerful text and artificial intelligence generator. GPT-3 is an artificial intelligence system that can be used to automatically generate and complete sentences and paragraphs, and is considered one of the most advanced systems to date. The OpenAI API key is required to access and benefit from the GPT-3 engine and its features.
What is an OpenAI API key?
An OpenAI API key is a unique identifier that provides access to OpenAI’s artificial intelligence services, including GPT-4o and DALL-E. This key secures your requests and allows you to manage your use of OpenAI services.
Create your account on OpenAI
The first step is to go to the OpenAI website and click on the “Sign Up” link at the top right. You can quickly register with your Google or Microsoft account. Otherwise, enter your email address, then choose a password. Once you have created your account, you will be redirected to your profile page.
Obtain your OpenAI API key
When you are on your profile page, you must click again at the top right on “Personal”, then on “View API keys”.
Once you click on this link, you will arrive on the page where your API keys will be displayed if you already have one. For security reasons, please note that it is not possible to display the “secret key” again. To create a new API key, click “Create new secret key”.
By clicking on the button, a window will open and you will see your key displayed. Copy it well before clicking OK. It is this long string of characters that you will need to register in the services you wish to use which need your Open AI API key, or if you directly wish to code a program which uses GPT 3.
Important : Copy and keep your key carefully, it will no longer be visible afterwards
